About Woven Form

From the moment Charlotte Wakefield got behind a loom, during her time at university in Brighton, she was hooked on this ancient practice. The attraction lies not just in exploring the possibilities of combining colours and fibres, but also in the contemplative nature of the repetitive process. In every wall hanging from Woven Form, you see the relationship of yarns and colours as uniquely interpreted through Charlotte’s eyes and fingertips.

The freedom to experiment is central to Woven Form’s success. Inspiration drawn from natural materials like slate and stone is brought to life by considered combinations of textured yarns. Expect the strength of linen alongside the supersoftness of lambswool, or chunky loop mohair contrasting with sleek merino. Extra texture comes courtesy of loose and close weaves, as well as neatly trimmed fringed edges. Deadstock from mills and textile factories is a rich source of raw materials. Using it means yarns that could otherwise go to waste are given new purpose.

You can’t miss how critical colour is in Woven Form wall hangings. Shades range from earthy ochres and flinty greys to the coppery tones of new bark and the cobalt blues of inky night skies. Naturally flecked yarns add depth and dimension. By balancing her hues expertly and choosing limited palettes to create light and shade, Charlotte brings the harmony of nature to her art.
