Design House Stockholm Beige Basket Rug, designed by Lena Bergström

Lena Bergström draws inspiration from Norrland’s natural landscape and uses a combination of rug making techniques to accentuate the play of light and shadow in the Basket rug design.

The nuanced use of tonal yarn colours, along with multi-directional hand tufting, followed by carving of the wool pile, together create this beautifully textured handmade rug.

The gentle graphic pattern of the rug and the unusual edge shape (as well as its name) celebrates traditional Swedish basketry and hand-crafted birch bark baskets.

Hand tufted rug 100% wool pile, cotton backing.

Awarded rug of the year 2019 by Elle Decoration.

WHO IT'S MADE BY

Design House Stockholm

Design House Stockholm works with a diverse range of renowned designers to bring Scandinavian design to life across a spectrum of design genres. The result is a versatile and timeless collection that encompasses everything from rugs to tableware.

The business model adopted by Design House Stockholm is a unique one. It’s not a conventional producer. Or a collective. It describes itself as a ‘publisher of design’, working with a diverse raft of designers and collaborating with them to bring unique ideas to life across a spectrum of design genres. The result is a timeless collection that encompasses everything from tableware to rugs and furniture.

Although they’re an eclectic bunch, what all the designers have in common is their adherence to the principles of Scandinavian design. In this context, ‘Scandinavian’ is used in a philosophical rather than a geographical sense, meaning designers from all over the globe are welcome under the Design House Stockholm umbrella.

Featured Design House Stockholm Designers:

Carina Seth Andersson – a range of media has inspired Carina and whether she’s working in glass, ceramics or textiles, she’s guided by the simple elegance of form. Curvaceous lines and light-reflecting surfaces make her teapots, bowls, and other tableware eye-catching pieces.

Lena Bergström – a world-renowned designer, Lena works in glass, metal and textile to create objects that reflect the shape, movement and colours of the natural world. Her rugs are hand-crafted and finished to accentuate the play of light and shadow and the relationship between hues.
