WHO IT'S MADE BY

Julie Damhus Studio

Ceramics from Julie Damhus Studio are at first glance all about Scandinavian simplicity and purity of form. Look a little closer and you’ll see these pieces may be modest, but they’re striking, too. The Danish designer has a fascination with the possibilities of clay. That means angular shapes coexist with rounded, feminine forms. Glazes are mottled or stippled and natural drips are a detail to be celebrated.

Traditional hand throwing techniques inform all of Julie Damhus Studio’s collections, so while cups, plates or jugs can be gathered into matching collections, each has a sense of uniqueness. These are functional designs intended to be used and appreciated. Mugs and plates stack neatly together and generous handles fit comfortably to the shape of your hand. Smooth and tactile finishes make everything a pleasure to hold and touch.

Distinctive use of colour is a distinguishing feature of the designer’s stoneware creations. Inky blues are redolent of Nordic skies and oceans, while paler pinks and speckled browns evoke flowering heather and dried bracken. Both the shapes and colours are complementary, so you can choose an individual piece, a coordinating set or an eclectic spectrum of colours.
