Kasthall summer breeze greta flatweave rug in green tones, on wooden flooring with chair
WHO IT'S MADE BY

Kasthall

As it’s been crafting fine rugs since 1889, Kasthall has a long heritage and a lot of experience to draw on. For well over 100 years, it’s been a much-respected mainstay of the Swedish textile industry. By combining inspired design with top-quality raw materials and an unshakeable commitment to sustainability, this is a brand that continues to lead the way today.

For designers working against the backdrop of Sweden’s wild landscape and rugged coastline, inspiration is in no short supply. Bracken-covered hillsides, dense forests and expansive cloudscapes are the figurative foundation upon which Kasthall’s creatives base their work. The result is luxurious rugs that reflect the capriciousness of the seasons and the diversity of the natural environment.

A harmonious marriage between colour and fibre is what makes Kasthall floor coverings so distinctive. Everything’s produced in the factory at Kinna in southwest Sweden, so the design and production teams work in close collaboration, assessing the characteristics and technical capabilities of the materials they use. This deep understanding of yarns means they can be worked to maximise their appearance, texture and performance. New Zealand wool and French flax are Kasthall’s fibres of choice. The wool is naturally very white so it takes dye easily and doesn’t need bleaching. The glossy flax maintains its lustre when coloured and woven.

Sustainable working practices are at the heart of Kasthall’s ethos, with particular focus placed on longevity and thoughtful use of resources. The company’s looms are carefully adjusted to ensure the weave is dense and the resulting rugs are thick and durable, as well as dirt-repellent and fire-resistant. Everything’s made to order, so there’s no overstock and therefore no waste. Your customised floor covering will be made to meet your own size specifications. Bespoke colour options are even available for some designs. Whether you choose a solid or patterned woven or hand-tufted option, these are timeless pieces intended to be handed down through the generations.
